Media Broadcast Completes 120th Transmitter Site for National DAB Network

The German DAB network will be expanded even further November 30, 2017

BERLIN — Germany’s Media Broadcast recently commissioned additional transmitter locations for the nationwide DAB + Digital Radio Multiplex on Channel 5C. Since Nov. 28, the transmitter at Dannenberg (Lower Saxony) has been on-air, with an output of 5 kW. On Dec. 1, the commissioning of another site, at Pettstädt / Weissenfels, will take place. The power level there will be 10 KW. During the last week of this year, Passau will be turned up at 5 kW, reports areadvd.de.

With the final expansion in 2017, the network has grown to a total of 120 transmitter locations, and next year it will be expanded further. Additional transmitter locations are planned which will optimize mobile coverage and in particular reception on federal highways. Furthermore, coverage is expected in over 90 percent of households around Germany. Details on further network expansion will be announced by Media Broadcast after completion of the planning.
