Washington - Jan 29, 2007 - Hirokazu Nishiyama, managing director of Japanese public broadcaster NHK, will provide the keynote address for the 61st annual Broadcast Engineering Conference at NAB2007. The Broadcast Engineering Conference provides a forum for engineers to discuss technology's effects on future trends in the broadcast industry. Nishiyama will discuss new broadcast services such as mobile, HDTV, IPTV, and VOD and the opportunities these advanced services create for broadcasters. He will also discuss the various applications that make ultra-HDTV, which offers 16 times the resolution of current HDTV.

From 1989 to 1995, Nishiyama served as executive deputy president of NHK Enterprises America, where he played a major role in production of HD programs in the United States. He was later appointed associate director of the Engineering Administration Department, where he was responsible for developing broadcasting equipment for HDTV.

Nishiyama served as the director-general of the Engineering Administration Department in 2004, overseeing all aspects of broadcast technologies within NHK. In 2005, Nishiyama was appointed managing director. He currently oversees all engineering activities and supervises the Engineering Administration Department and the Science and Technical Research Laboratories.
