Pierson to Retire as President/CEO of NFCB
Oakland, CA - Aug 17, 2009 - Carol Pierson has served as president and CEO of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters (NFCB) for 13 year. After dedicating her life to working in public and community radio, she will retire from the NFCB in January 2010.
Prior to the NFCB, Pierson served as program director and director of radio productions at KQED-FM in San Francisco for 10 years and eight years as assistant station manager, director of operations and national programming director at WGBH-FM in Boston. Her radio career started at WYSO in Yellow Springs, OH, where she was public affairs director and assistant manager for three years.
She has served on the D/I Committee of the NPR board and currently serves on the Media and Democracy Coalition board as well as the La Peña Cultural Center board in her own community of Berkeley, CA. She also serves on NFCB's board, ex-officio.
Since her time with the NFCB, membership has grown by more than one third. Her interests in diversity and expanding community radio have contributed to establishing two major projects: Native Public Media and the Latino Public Radio Consortium. Having actively supported the LPFM movement and the FCC's 2007 window for new NCE stations, the NFCB has helped and is helping-dozens of new stations get on the air.
