May 22, 2014 - DAB+ radio is now available in Italy, and the Italian company Calearo sees its potential. The Tier 1 supplier to some of the largest automobile OEMs in Europe has already developed several DAB+ solutions for its customers Volkswagen, Renault, Nissan and others.
The real market, though, is for the millions of cars on the road throughout Italy that need DAB+ converters. 65 percent of Italian drivers use radio in their cars, but only 3 percent of cars on the market in Italy come with DAB+ receivers as standard equipment, according to autoappassionati.it.
Using experience gained by way of its earlier partnerships with automobile OEMs, Calearo plans to sell an after-market solution that they're calling DABnPLAY, which (according to them) will be perfectly compatible with a vehicles original equipment. Calearo's DABnPLAY is a "smart" interface that makes use of the diversity antennas embedded into many current-make cars, thus eliminating the need to punch any extra holes in the car body for additional antennas.
