AMSTERDAM—Females in the Broadcast Industry will host its first event, a combination panel discussion and networking lunch, at IBC 2014.
The panel will discuss what companies and the industry are doing to attract women to the industry and whether current efforts are sufficient. They will also explore how to educate the next generation of women to fulfill nontraditional roles and how those already in the industry can encourage more women to enter it.
Panelists currently include: Sadie Groom (managing director, Bubble & Squeak), Lesley Johnson (operations director, BBC Worldwide), Laura Thommen (vice president of enterprise sales, MelroseTec), Carrie Wootten (head of commercial development, Ravensbourne) and Nicki Fisher (sales director EMEA, Clear-Com).
“We feel it''s very important for women to have a dedicated forum that can work towards opening up opportunities in the industry,” said Ross Video EMEA Sales Director David Dowling. “When I look around the broadcast world I''m consistently shocked at the very small number of women in sales, technical and operational roles. That''s something that needs to change. There are a great many well-educated and motivated women who are perfectly capable of developing a successful career in broadcast given the chance.”
The event will be held from 12:30-2 p.m., September 13 in Room D201, Hall 14.
