Microsoft Sued over Zune Song Tagging

Seattle, WA - Mar 25, 2010 - An ophthalmologist who holds patents describing the use of RBDS data with a computer to purchase songs being aired. This is according to a report from The patent holder claims Microsoft illegally added his patented technology to the media player after he tried to license it to Microsoft.

Seattlepi says that Dr. Edward Yavitz of Rockford, IL, contact Microsoft in December 2006 to pitch the tagging idea. Microsoft added song tagging to the Zune in September 2008. Yavitz's patents, 6,463,649 and 6,473,792, were filed in 2000 and granted in 2002. has also posted Yavitz's complaint.
