London - May 16, 2013 - RAJAR has published its latest measurement results for radio listening throughout the U.K. Highlights of the report:
■ 90 percent of the UK adult population tuned in to radio stations during the first quarter of 2013. This is an increase of about 600,000; at the same time the actual number of listening hours is off by about 3 percent year over year.
■ On average, a listener spends 21.9 hours per week listening to radio.
■ Radio listening done via digital platforms has increased 11 percent year over year. Digital Platforms include DAB, DTV, and online sources.
■ Digital listening hours increased 14 percent year over year, from 311 million hours in the first quarter of 2012 to 355 million hours in the first quarter of 2013. DAB radio is the most popular source, accounting for 66 percent of the hours, followed by online sources at 14.6 percent and DTV at 14.5 percent.
■ The share of all radio listening hours done via digital platforms is now at 34.3 percent as compared to 29.2 percent for the same quarter last year.
■ 23 M listeners have access to a DAB radio, which equates to 44 percent of the U.K. population.
■ 20 percent of adults have listened to radio over a mobile phone, an increase of 19 percent year over year.
