Bern, Switzerland - May 26, 2014 — A seminar about the future of digital radio in Switzerland, sponsored by AG DigiMig, was held today. DigiMig is composed of representatives of SRG; the Association of Swiss Private Radio stations; radio Régionales Romandes; specialists from the Swiss office of Communications; Swisscom Broadcast; and members of the automotive trade.
The point of the seminar was to disseminate the latest news about digital radio throughout Switzerland. Among the topics discussed was the possible ending date for FM radio there, which was given as 2024; various aspects of FM to DAB+ migration, including matters of legislation; technical conditions; marketing; and finally solving the problem of DAB+ receiver market penetration.
Members of DigiMig are developing a plan to move forward with the migration and intend to deliver their plan and report to Swiss Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard, Head of the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, by the end of the year.
