Dec 9, 2013 - In December 2012 the rollout of DAB+ networks for the German-speaking portion of Switzerland began. Initially there were to be seven regional networks: North Switzerland, Central Switzerland, Basel, Bern/Fribourg, Ostschweiz, Valais and Grisons. However, in April 2013 it was announced that the seven would be merged in to one larger network to be known simply as North Switzerland, according to RadioNL.
In mid November 2013, the SwissMediaCast expanded its station lineup on the channel 7A mux, adding three extras which can be heard around Lucerne, Basel and the intermediate area. Also, in the Ostschweiz area, channel 9D has been brought up, which is heard along the borders of Austria as well as Liechtenstein. Two stations have been put on the channel 8B mux, which can be heard in the region of Bern, Biel, and Fribourg.
One of the beneficiaries of the rollouts is SFR's Radio 1, since each of the regional DAB+ networks provides carriage for this service.
