Thailand Plans DAB+ Trials for 2014

December 25, 2013

Bangkok - Dec 16, 2013 - Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission will prioritize digital radio next year, according to the Bangkok Post. NBTC Chairman Natee Sukronat said further trials for digital radio will start early next year, using un-allocated frequencies in the VHF band.

In March 2013, the NBTC conducted trials with DAB+, and it has appointed the ITU as a technical advisor for the digital radio transformation, in the areas of the standards to be used, and other technical issues. The NBTC plans to set up digital radio throughout Thailand along the same lines as it did for digital TV, with some resources for public, some for commercial, and some for community purposes.
