ROMEItaly''s media regulator AGCOM has announced new frequencies for the regions of Piedmont, Valle d''Aosta, Sardinia, Liguria, Umbria, Friuli, and Tuscany that will soon be available for regional DAB+ networks. Currently only the Trentino-Alto region, along with that of Rome, have regional DAB stations on-air, according to

Italy has three national multiplexes used by Euro DAB, carrying RTL 102.5 and Radio Italia; Club DAB (both Radio Deejay and RDS); and the public broadcaster RAI. Club DAB and RAI have worked hard to achieve national coverage, which they expect to complete by the end of 2015. RAI has recently launched three new radio stations via DAB +: RAI WR6 (spoken word), and RAI WR7 and WR8 (both pop and rock). In total RAI now broadcasts 13 radio stations via DAB +.

DAB transmissions have been available in Italy since 2004; only as recently as 2012 have DAB+ transmissions started.

AGCOM has accepted the request and will release frequencies in the new regions officially by year''s end. New broadcasts can (at least potentially) start up early next year.
