The Ampegon presentation focused on the secure and reliable capacity of DRM to deliver data over long distances. Delivery of data files to naval vessels, whether in text, audio or video form, is being used and tested by Germany, France and the U.S. Rounding off the presentation, a Transradio representative announced that his company is offering a new DRM+-capable�FM transmitter.
IBC attendees who visited the DRM events had the opportunity to listen to receivers and to see software solutions demonstrated by Gospell, PantronX (Titus II), Avion, Radio Haugaland and Fraunhofer IIS.
Digital Radio Mondiale is an openly-standardized digital broadcasting system for all broadcasting frequencies. The DRM standard comprises two major configurations: DRM30, intended for broadcasts on short, medium and long wave up to 30 MHz, providing medium to large coverage areas and low power consumption. The configuration for the bands above 30 MHz is called "DRM+,"�and is tailored for local and regional coverage. All DRM configurations share the same audio coding, data and multimedia services, service linking, multiplexing and signaling schemes.� DRM provides high quality sound combined with a wealth of enhanced features: Surround Sound, Journaline text information, Slideshow, EPG, and data services.
The DRM Consortium has signed the EBU Smart Radio Memorandum that promotes access to free to air radio on all devices.
