Sydney, Australia - Jun 25, 2012 - The Australian Broadcasting Company will celebrate its 80th birthday by creating a special events digital radio station that will broadcast from June 29 til July 1, 2012. The programs, taken from the ABC archives, will be called "ABC turns 80."

The broadcasts will cover significant historical moments, from the 1932 Melbourne Cup to Gough Whitlam's dismissal, from Blue Hills to 9/11. Some of ABC Radio's finest current broadcasters will grab a decade and walk with through it: Geraldine Doogue (1930s), Jon Faine (1940s), Margaret Throsby (1950s), Linda Mottram (1960s), Richard Fidler (1970s), Tracee Hutchinson (1980s), Robbie Buck (1990s) and Zan Rowe (2000s).
