Clear Channel Radio has unveiled a commercial-free version of its iHeart Radio mobile application that now boasts over 7 million downloads since its initial launch a little more than two years ago.
According to an Adweek article, 24-hour spot-free streaming, downloads, and archived content are now available for Premiere Network talkers Sean Hannity, Dr. Laura, Jim Rome and Bob & Tom via downloadable apps for select Apple, Blackberry, and Android devices.
But as with many popular webcast services these days, user convenience and escape from the torrent of radio spots normally accompanying those programs will cost something like $6 to$7 per month in subscription fees.
Even so, fans of the freebie iHeart app can take solace in the fact that CC has also made version 2.3 available at no cost for Apple and BlackBerry platforms, with an Android variant reportedly coming soon.
Clear Channel claims that mobile listening already adds more than 10 percent to the total streaming audience of one of its typical stations, and that online listening adds up to 15 percent to the listening of its terrestrial products.
