Colombo, Sri Lanka - May 22, 2014 - Joan Warner, the CEO of Commercial Radio Australia, touted "hybrid" radio during a speech given at the RadioAsia 2014 conference going on in Colombo.

AsiaRadioToday reports that Warner is also calling for the installation of digital radio chips in all new radios and smartphones. She said that streaming should be used only when a terrestrial over-the-air broadcast is not available. Additionally, Warner said that internet delivery cannot replicate the ubiquitous nature of broadcast radio; and that the push to radio listening via apps and streaming will cost broadcasters more in delivery fees.
