Hilversum, Netherlands - May 1, 2014 - Dutch public broadcaster NPO is now transmitting images ("slides") via DAB+ on the majority of its programming channels.

RadioNL reports that last September, NPO's Radio 1 started broadcasting slides and starting May 1 Radio 2, 3FM, 4, 5, 6, 2000, and News Top 24 are transmitting slides as well. The slides show information about the program in progress and news headlines.

Pluxbox developed the application pbRadiomanager for NPO, allowing them to produce and control the slides that are transmitted.

Right now few people around the Netherlands are able to see the slides though; a DAB+ receiver is necessary, of course, and the ones that display pictures cost more than do receivers that simply show scrolling text.
