FCC Activates DIRS for Hurricane Earl

Sep 5, 2010 3:01 PM

Washington, DC - Sep 3, 2010 As Hurricane Earl worked its storm path, the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) of the Federal Communications Commission activated the Disaster Information Reporting System (DIRS) for stations affected by the storm. On Sept. 3, the FCC deactivated the system.

DIRS is a voluntary, Web-based system that communications providers, including wireless, wireline, broadcast and cable providers, can use to report communications infrastructure status and situational awareness information during times of crises. The FCC asks communications providers not to submit additional information related to the effects of Hurricane Earl through DIRS until further notice.
