German Public Broadcaster MDR to Use DAB+ for 5.1 Surround

Leipzig, Germany - May 6, 2013 - Starting in May 2013 on every Monday, MDR Classic will transmit the program "Highlights from the Concert Hall in Surround Sound" featuring the MDR Symphony Orchestra and MDR Radio Choir. The program airs between 8 and 10 p.m. local time. Listeners will be able to hear the program in 5.1 surround, with all material sent via the DAB+ system. Additionally, extensive information about the program will be transmitted via text services on the same DAB+ network.

This new application for the DAB+ technology was developed in cooperation with Fraunhofer Institute in Erlangen.

The May 6, 2013, program included works by Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frederic Handel; during the second program on May 13, the 200th birthday of Richard Wagner (born May 22, 1813) was the focus.
