Ibiquity: HD Radio Technology Gains Acceptance

Columbia, MD - Apr 4, 2013 - Ibiquity Digital announced significant growth in digital broadcast services, consumer listening and receiver sales. According to iBiquity, HD Radio receiver sales growth has accelerated, with a new radio sold every 6 seconds. More than 12 million HD Radio receivers have been sold, with more than 10 million factory-installed in new cars or auto aftermarket units.

� More than 3.4 million HD Radio-equipped cars were sold in 2012
� 20 percent of all new cars sold in 2012 included HD Radio technology

As the installed base of HD Radio receivers rapidly increases, so has listening to multicast programming. According to the latest Fall 2012 Arbitron Radio Nationwide audience estimates, 3 million people listen to an HD2, HD3 or HD4 channel in an average week. This represents a 90 percent increase in average quarter hour audience from the Fall 2011 survey. During the same period, Cume audience grew at more than 60 percent.

HD Radio audio broadcasts are enriched by some new features and services that are being rolled out by radio broadcasters and manufacturers. Artist Experience and iTunes tagging are helping to bring broadcast radio fully into the digital age.

HD Digital Traffic Services enable stations to transmit up-to-the-minute traffic, weather and other information and plot it onto car navigation screens. Two national networks, one built by Clear Channel and the other by the Broadcaster Traffic Consortium are now delivering HD Radio Digital Traffic. This service is already widely available in JVC and Garmin consumer products, and Toyota, Lexus and Mitsubishi will bring cars to market this year with these features built in and available free to the consumer. Broadcasters are compensated directly from consumer brands, car manufacturers or service providers for their participation, providing a new revenue stream.

Both the new 2013 Toyota radio featuring the Clear Channel Total Traffic Network service as well as the recently introduced Mitsubishi unit with the Nokia/BTC service will be on display at the NAB Show at the HD Radio booth, C451.
