Telos Alliance Names Carroll's Successor

John Schur will oversee TV audio products as VP of television solutions

CLEVELAND, Ohio � The Telos Alliance has a new front man for its TV audio products. It named John Schur (right) as vice president of television solutions; he succeeds Tim Carroll, who is leaving Telos.

Schur, top, founded Minnetonka Audio and came to Telos when it acquired Minnetonka last year.�

Carroll, below right, and Linear Acoustic, which he founded, became part of the Telos Alliance eight years ago. Telos said in an announcement that Carroll is leaving and moving to the west coast for personal and family reasons. He was at one time a minority owner in Telos, though it is unclear whether he continues to hold an ownership interest. A Telos spokeswoman declined further comment.

Schur founded Minnetonka Software in 1986 and Minnetonka Audio Software in 1998, providing audio software products and services for �professional broadcast and media industries. He has a background in engineering, software architecture and design, music, performance and audio recording. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a masters in Computer Engineering from Stanford.�

According to an online bio, Carroll worked in high school and college radio engineering, then joined Dolby Labs in 1995. Linear Acoustic was started in the basement of the house in which he grew up, then expanded into the garage. He and Leif Claesson showed the first Linear Acoustic product, the OCTiMAX 5.1, at a SMPTE convention in Pasadena. The company eventually moved to Lancaster, Pa., and became part of the Telos Alliance in 2008.

Telos Alliance�s TV Solutions division makes products for TV loudness control and AoIP for TV.
