STOCKHOLMSwedish Broadcast Services provider Teracom is welcoming the Swedish Government''s report about a future migration to digital radio.
According to Telecompaper, Digital radio coordinator Nina Wormbs presented her report regarding terrestrial digital broadcasting on December 1. In this report, Wormbs suggested the nationwide expansion of digital radio, and complete sun-setting'' of the FM service there by 2022.
According to the same article, Teracom CEO Stephan Guiance said DAB+ radio provides a greater choice of services, lower energy use and lower transmission costs, and that the money saved can be spent on program production.
Sweden has fallen behind the UK, Germany, Denmark and Norway--countries in which digital radio has been established for many years. In Norway, analog radio broadcasts will likely cease in 2017.
