AMSTERDAMFraunhofer IIS and Modulation Index have collaborated on the xHE-AAC-enabled streaming encoder StreamS Live and presented at IBC 2015.
Designed for speech and music transmission at 16kbits/s for stereo, the xHE-AAC is a low bit-rate extension of the AAC audio codec. The xHE-AAC coding efficiency enables streaming services to operate at lower data rates. The encoder also reduces buffering times and features lower band-width requirements.
In addition to streaming applications, xHE-AAC is the standard codec for Digital Radio Mondiale DRM, making it widely available in DRM receivers and professional broadcast equipment.
The xHE-AAC patent license is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2016.
