RASTATT, Germany — Lawo says its Radio Software v6.0 update will incorporate SMPTE 2022-7 as standard for Ruby and Power Core radio consoles — the first to do so, the company says.

According to the company, they’ve released this update because “SMPTE 2022 defines ways for IP networks to cope with the unexpected, ensuring delivery of critical real-time digital audio.”

Seamless Protection Switching, or hitless merge, SPS “enables AoIP simultaneous transmission of dual, identical audio streams via independent network paths, providing instant, undetectable switching to backup should the primary link be interrupted.”

Lawo said the update will “ensure that unexpected network problems don’t result in dead air.”

Radio OnAir Senior Product Manager Mike Dosch said in the announcement that the broad use of AoIP in radio has made network reliability crucial. “If the network fails, you're out of business,” which is the reason Lawo implemented the SMPTE 2022-7 standard for Seamless Protection Switching into its line of radio mixing consoles. It did so earlier for its mc² production consoles.

The Radio v6.0 update also includes user interface and feature enhancements for all Lawo radio products.
