Norway’s Metro Group Faces Fine for Oslo FMs

In Radio Magazine Today we�ve been following the saga of Norway�s Metro Group, which initially refused to turn off their Oslo-based FM stations on Dec. 8. The company finally gave in, though they claim the case before the ETSA might ultimately affect FM there going forward. Metro Groups stations include Radio Metro, Radio Rox and The Beat.

Now we learn that Norway�s Media Authority will fine the stations in the Metro Group for transmission of FM broadcasts without a license.�The National Communications Authority also announced sanctions for the cause, but �they will not pursue the matter further,� according to radionytt.no. The Norwegian Media Authority will levy fines based on calculations from the National Communications Authority for �non-licensed� coverage of the transmitters on the various networks.�The fee cannot exceed 0.5% of the broadcaster's total revenue for the last fiscal year, according to the same article.��
