OLD LYME, Conn. Disability charity ASA asbl has launched Belgiums first audio description services for sports events. The charity uses Sennheisers Tourguide system to narrate soccer matches for visually impaired fans, according to a release from the company.

The initiative helps make sporting events more inclusive for the visually impaired by inviting them to attend events and offering an audio description.

ASA Director Jean-Marc Streel says the idea was inspired by stadia in the UK, where, he says, every soccer stadium has an internal radio station that provides an audio description of the matches. ASA consequently purchased two Sennheiser Tourguide systems with a total of 40 stethoset headphones for the project.

ASA began this initiative four years ago at matches played in the stadium at Mons but has since grown its operations to include Lige Standard and the Belgian national side, the Red Devils. The group also attended the World Cup in Brazil and are considering trips to other major matches.

Additionally, they are beginning plans to expand to other sports, such as tennis.

The Sennheiser Group based in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, was founded in 1945 and is a manufacturer of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems.
